APRIL 2, 1940, 76 Years Ago: "About 1,200 wheel tax stickers issued by City Clerk William Wallmarte by noon this Thursday. Limit of 1,400. Deadline to purchase vehicle wheel tax licenses is April 1. Could be arrested if you don't have one." (Obviously, too late by now.)
** DeKalb and Winnebago counties each had eight auto deaths during the first three months of 1940. They led the other northern Illinois counties where 25 died in the ten counties during the same time period.
