The Shamrock Court Motel in Sullivan, Missouri. It can be yours for $125,000. Lots of possibilities. Actually, now you're too late. Missouri's Roamin' Rich bought it.

A Week In the Life-- Part 7: Back 40 Years and the PLAV Street Dance
SUNDAY, AUGUST 4
Had coffee and read part of the Chicago Tribune FP. Enjoyed going back to August 4, 1979, forty years ago on Bob Stroud's Rock and Roll Roots Part 3 Summer of '79 show. Forty years ago we were living in Round Lake Beach, Illinois, and enjoying good times with our neighbors.
These were songs on our radio and in our record collections and the first four songs he played:
I Need A Lover-- John Cougar
Minute By Minute-- Doobie Brothers
Logical Song-- Supertramp
My My Hey Hey-- Neil Young
For the complete list of songs he played, go to my Down Da Road I Go blog.
We had a choice of going to see Jed's band playing at Stucky's in Johnsburg or the PLAV's annual street dance in McHenry. We chose the PLAV (Polish Legion of American Veterans) as we also hang out there a lot. And, it was a real hard deal to beat. It was all you can eat of Italian, Polish, brats and hot dogs, salads, corn on the cob and desserts you can eat as well beer you can drink for $10.
All that and Peter & the Versatiles were playing outside, one of our favorite bands, plus, when they were on break we had a karaoke/DJ guy interacting with the crowd. We got to see buddy Mark shaking his little tush to " I'm Too Sexy."
So, this was my week and why I stay around here usually doing the summer.

Listenin' to My Music on the Trip-- Part 1: Illinois
Cruising down the road I have to have my music which I get from either the free airwaves or CD.
Leaving home, we listened to WDRV's Ten at Ten, first on 96.9 FM, which we get in the northern part of Chicagoland and then on 97.1 FM for the rest of the area.
On June 10, when we left, Ten at Ten was to 1979:
SARA-- Fleetwood Mac
DON'T BRING ME DOWN-- ELO
SOUTH BOUND SUAREZ-- Led Zeppelin
EVERY TIME I THINK OF YOU-- Babys
YOU CAN'T CHANGE THAT-- Raydio
GOLD-- John Stewart
SHOT DOWN IN FLAMES-- AC/DC
CRUEL TO BE KIND-- Nick Lowe
LOVE IS THE ANSWER-- England Dan and John Ford Coley
LIFE DURING WARTIME-- Talking Heads
So we got taken back forty years at the start of the trip.
For the rest of Illinois, we listened to MeTV FM, 87.7, WJEZ FM out of Pontiac and WGCY out of Gibson City.

40th Anniversary Summer '79 and Another Band
SUNDAY, JUNE 2
Concluding a busy weekend.
This morning Bob Stroud had the first part of his annual salute to a summer 40 years ago. This one being 1979. I always look forward to this, the first Sunday of June, July, August and September. He played music on your radio or record collection on June 2, 1979. I have the complete list in this month's Down Da Road I Go blog, but here are some of the songs he played:
WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES-- Doobie Brothers
ROCK AND ROLL FANTASY-- Bad Company
GIVE ME SOME WATER-- Eddie Money
SULTANS OF SWING-- Dire Straits
FIRE-- Pointer Sisters
BREAKFAST IN AMERICA-- Supertramp
We went to Stucky's and met up with Glenn and Barb and sat out on the deck and enjoyed Force of Nature, which includes Uncle Will.

Warm Here We Come-- Part 2: Radio Tunes
As I mentioned in my last post, we listened to the radio a whole lot on our way to Panama City Beach.
Since we were somewhat late getting off on the first day of the trip, we were able to listen to Bob Stroud's Ten at Ten on Chicago's WDRV, first at 96.9 FM and then 97.1 FM as we got further south. Always a favorite thing for me.
The year ten songs were chosen from was 1979.
HERE COMES MY GIRL-- Tom Petty
COOL CHANGE-- Little River Band
IT'S ALL I CAN DO-- Cars
WE DON'T TALK ANYMORE-- Cliff Richards
DON'T BRING ME DOWN-- ELO
TOUCH TOO MUCH-- AC/DC
I NEED A LOVER-- John Mellancamp
LOVE IS THE ANSWER-- England Dan and John Ford Coley
BAD CASE OF LOVING YOU-- Robert Palmer
THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA-- Charlie Daniels Band
