MARCH 24
Birthplace of Route 66 Festival in Springfield, Missouri, is expanding to three days. It was just two days. This year will be the first time it will be held since 2019 because of the coronavirus.
This will be its 10th anniversary and will be held August 11-13 with some 75,000 expected to attend.
This gets its name from the 1926 meeting of transportation officers in Springfield where they informed the federal government that they would accept the "66" number for the new highway. They had been wanting the number "60".
