The Shamrock Court Motel in Sullivan, Missouri. It can be yours for $125,000. Lots of possibilities. Actually, now you're too late. Missouri's Roamin' Rich bought it.

Just Looking for Some CB&C

Well, it's coming up on St. Patrick's Day again.  That means I am looking for some of that good old corned beef & cabbage CB&C).  I love that stuff.  I wish it would be available in places throughout the year, not just now.  I don't care about health questions, I just love it like good ol' Eastern Carolina BBQ (well, any sort of bbq).

And, as we start the final countdown to St. Patrick's Day (on a Sunday this year 9 days from now), I have two places pegged for some CB&C.  Next Saturday at the VFW in Lake Villa, Illinois, after the annual parade, next Sunday at the American Legion in Fox Lake and the following Thursday at the Fox Lake senior luncheon.

Looking for some places this weekend and maybe even some St. Patrick's parties.

Wilber's Barbecuse, Goldsboro, N.C.-- A Trip to the 'Cue Place of All 'Cue Places

From "The Best Tar Heel Barbecue" by Jim Early.

On May 5, I made my every visit pilgrimage to that favorite 'cue place I have been going to for a long time, Wilber's.

A plate of barbecue comes with the barbecue, of course, and you also get cole slaw, potato salad and hush puppies.  I am not a big fan of their potato salad, so ordered my usual double cole slaw.  Of course, to me, the proper way to eat bbq is an equal amount of 'cue and cole slaw on each forkful.

The price is now $9.95 for a plate, less if you get a tray which has less 'cue and only one side of cole slaw.

OK, I saved the best two for last.  I like both, but if pressed will go with eastern Carolina since that is where I'm from.

EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA

The Meat:  Chopped whole hog
The Key Slaw Ingredient:  Extra-tart vinegar
The Chop:  Finely chopped

WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA

The Meat:  Chopped or pulled pork shoulder
The Key Slaw Ingredient:  ketchup and vinegar
The Chop:  Finely chopped.

Got to Rustle Up me Some 'Cue Real Soon.  --RoadDog

Carolina BBQ to be Spotlighted in Chicago Tribune

While perusing Wednesday's Tribune Food Section yesterday, I came across a very familiar logo. It was that of Scott's Barbeque from my hometown of Goldsboro, NC. Beside it was a blurb that read they were going to have an article about it next Wednesday. I look forward to it.

I love all kinds of 'cue, but especially that great pit-cooked, pulled pork in a vinegar sauce that they serve up in the eastern part of North Carolina. Get an order of that along with cole slaw, hushpuppies, and tea, and you have some mighty fine eating.

I particularly like eating out at Wilber's on the US-70 bypass. The interior is just perfect for your enjoyment of 'cue. Nearby McCall's is great as well. and there you can also get a buffet which sometimes includes that great Calabash shrimp.

Lovin' that Great Carolina 'Cue. --RoadDog
