Along Lincoln Highway, June 2018: Saving the L.H. Bridge
From the June 18, 2018, Channel 9 KCRG News (Iowa), "Our Town Tama-Toledo: Preserving the Lincoln Highway bridge."
A group of devoted people in Tama and Toledo are vowing not to lose it. Townspeople have collected money and put lettering on the bridge.
Construction on the bridge started in 1915 and it is the only one left in the country with the Lincoln Highway letters on its sides. It was built by Paul Kingsley from Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Traffic is hurting the old bridge, especially trucks. The state has suggested tearing it out in favor of a newer bridge.
A park has been created by it and foreign travelers visit it,
