Joliet clarifies what it will do with the nearly half million dollars it is getting for Route 66.
Joliet, Illinois, says it will beef up its Route 66 attractions for the Mother Road's upcoming centennial in 1926. The city council loaned $484,500 to the Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Center.
Among specifics:
** A revamped Route 66 Welcome Center
** New exhibit at the Joliet Area Historical Museum
** Mural on the Rialto Square Theatre
** Two new Route 66 sculptures
